Manville Library to Host Program Exploring The Connection Between Baseball And Jazz

Attendees will enjoy live performances of baseball-themed music.

MANVILLE, NJ — Music and sports fans alike are invited to discover the unique relationship between two iconic American traditions during "Baseball and Jazz: Joint American Pastimes," presented by The Patrick Kerssen Trio.

The program will take place on Wednesday, July 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Manville Branch Library Community Room.

The program will examine how baseball and jazz evolved alongside one another and played important roles in the early Civil Rights movement, while highlighting the mutual admiration shared by legendary athletes and musicians.

Attendees will enjoy live performances of baseball-themed music by artists such as Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Dr. John, and Nat King Cole, accompanied by a historical slideshow featuring baseball greats including Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, and Bernie Williams.

The presentation will also share stories about renowned jazz musicians—including Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald,and Duke Ellington—whose love of baseball helped strengthen the enduring connection between the two art forms.

The educational program offers a blend of live music, history, and storytelling, celebrating two of America's most influential cultural contributions.
