Giving Tuesday 2018: Nonprofits To Support In Manville

MANVILLE, NJ — Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone kicking off the annual shopping season with many digging into their pockets for new presents.
However some may want to give back and donate some of their funds to a notable cause. This is the essence of #GivingTuesday, which begins the charitable season on Nov. 27.
Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources, said the organization.

There are charities everywhere, now which ones to donate to?
Many may want to keep it truly local, and help the neighbors around them or the charities that operate right in their community.

Here is a list of nonprofit organizations operating or helping in and around Manville. Learn more about them.
- Manville Arts Council: To foster recognition of and improve accessibility to visual, written, musical, and theater arts within the Manville community; invigorate the town by creating arts events that attract visitors and local business involvement, spotlights residential and local talent, and create venues to further develop the arts in Manville.
- New Jersey Audubon: New Jersey Audubon fosters environmental awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey’s citizens; protects New Jersey’s birds, mammals, other animals, and plants, especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes preservation of New Jersey’s valuable natural habitats.
- Adult Day Center of Somerset County: A staff of 20 devoted individuals care for up to 80 people each day (over 120 different people each week) who come to the Adult Day Center.
- Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra: The CJSO remains committed to presenting New Jersey artists and composers, including some of today's finest young musicians.
- Somerset Regional Animal Shelter: Every year they take in nearly 1,000 animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, and more. In addition to finding these animals their forever homes, they provide: Behavior modification, animal control, affordable spay and neuter, and pet retention programs.
- St. Huberts Animal Welfare Center: St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center is dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. They believe in and provide services that support the human-animal bond and seek to foster an environment in which people respect all living creatures.
- The Quaid R Mobus Foundation: The Quaid R. Mobus Foundation is dedicated to providing support, assistance, information, education, resources and most of all hope to families afflicted with spinal cord injuries.
- Home Sharing Inc.: HomeSharing helps individuals who need additional income or assistance in order to maintain and remain in their homes or apartments (Providers) and individuals searching for safe and affordable housing in the community (Seekers).
- Izzy's Infantry Fighting Pediatric Cancer & Spinal Trauma: The group works to fund research that will lead to better treatment options and a cure for childhood cancer; fund programs and research that provide spinal cord injury rehabilitation for children; and help improve the quality of life for children in treatment and their families through programming, outreach and support groups.
- Visions and Pathways: Visions and Pathways has helped abused, neglected, homeless, missing and at-risk youth since 1970.
- Diva For A Day Foundation: A non-profit organization founded in 2010 by two friends who recognize the benefits of a day to escape from the daily stresses a woman will face while dealing with cancer. Through the program, special Divas are selected each month to enjoy a complete day of pampering, at a participating salon/spa.
- Cure For IBD: The foundation raises funds for research towards new therapies and cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to raise global awareness of Inflammatory Bowel Disease by empowering both adults and children to join their fundraising efforts.
- Steps Together: A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring the community to pay their blessings forward and support families facing a medical crisis.
- Safe+Sound Somerset: Their mission is to empower survivors of domestic abuse and engage the community to break the cycle of violence.
- Friends of Lord Stirling Stable School Horse Retirement Program: To promote, support and supplement the educational and recreational programs at Lord Stirling Park Riding Stable, which is part of the Somerset County Park Commission.
