Location: Lincoln Avenue Park
Description: Birds have the most interesting and conspicuous lifestyles of just about any animal group. Surprisingly, despite New Jersey’s distinction as the fifth smallest state in the US, our home is shared by roughly 300 different bird species. Join us in Lincoln Ave Park for a couple of hours of fun, avian-related activities and some quality bird watching.

Campers will…
- Learn about bird adaptations and the basics of bird identification using feathers and other biofacts
- Be provided with binoculars and learn how to use them
- Go on a bird watching hike
- Make a bird feeder from a repurposed ½ gallon beverage carton
Wednesday, August 26th: Hands and Knees Nature
Location: Memorial Park
Description: Explore a world hidden in the grass beneath your feet, a world dominated by creatures that exist in nearly every shape and color, can transform into an armored beast or painted beauty, and often possess superhuman strength and speed. Come discover the world of insects!
Campers will…
- Assemble a “body parts puzzle” to learn the anatomy of insects
- Go on an insect safari to observe and collect insects to learn about their life cycles
- Build an insect model out of paper and pipe cleaners
Friday, August 28th: Stream Ecology
Location: Royce Brook (Corner of Whalen and Raritan near Weston ES)
Description: If you’ve never studied stream ecology but think it might be a topic you’re interested in, this is the perfect program for getting your feet wet, literally! Visit a local stream and discover what’s living there. Discover how aquatic organisms are adapted for life underwater and how they’re connected to other animals that share the same habitat.
Campers will…
- Use nets to catch aquatic organisms
- View specimens using field microscopes
- Construct a stream food chain model to take home
Time: 10am - 12pm
Cost: $30 for all 3 sessions
