SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission is accepting grant applications for the 2022 County History Partnership Program Grant (CHPP). This grant helps support both new and existing local history organizations that serve the public. Potential applicants include historical societies and organizations, libraries, nonprofits, or municipalities that offer New Jersey history programming, history-related services, and history education about Somerset County for its residents.

“The 2022 History Partnership Program Grant provides local nonprofits and communities with a great opportunity to highlight the unique history that makes Somerset County so special,” said Commissioner Melonie Marano, liaison to the Cultural & Heritage Commission. “Somerset County has a prominent place in the history of our state and nation, and it’s vital our stories are told as we prepare for America’s 250th anniversary.”
Grant Guidelines
Funding is competitive and will be awarded to organizations that demonstrate managerial competency, fiscal stability, excellence in history programming, and the organizational capacity to execute a proposed program or project. Some of the requirements for eligibility are:

- Funds may be awarded for New Jersey history programs and projects that are accessible to the general public or for general operating support in the 2022 calendar year.
- For general operating support, the organization’s mission must be solely history dedicated.
Funding for this grant is contingent on funds made available to the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission by the New Jersey Historical Commission (NJHC) in 2022. Match requirements have been waived for 2022.
Deadline for Submission
CHPP grant applications are due by 4 p.m., Sept. 14, 2021. Due to the pandemic and social distancing, Somerset County is encouraging applicants to mail their submissions to the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission, County Administration Building, 20 Grove Street, Somerville, New Jersey 08876. Free Zoom Grant Writing Workshops
It is strongly recommended that organizations attend at least one of three free CHPP Grant Technical Assistance Zoom Workshops that are occurring on July 28, 2021, at 5 p.m., Aug. 10, 2021, at 10 a.m., and Aug. 26, 2 p.m. To register for a workshop, visit http://bit.ly/SCTechAsst.
