4 Car Thefts And Burglaries Reported In Maplewood In January
The Maplewood police have released reports on burglaries and thefts so far in January, including two car thefts.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood police recently released a rundown of crimes reported in January. Here is the information from recent reports:
Two Vehicles Burglarized
On Jan. 9, someone entered an unlocked work van that was parked on Menzel Avenue. The owner told police that his insurance card, registration card, and tools were removed from the vehicle.

The same day, a resident of Buckingham Garden Pkwy reported that his unlocked/unsecured Subaru was entered and a Laptop that was on the passenger seat was stolen. He said the theft occurred between 7:50 p.m. and 11 p.m. that day.

On Jan. 7, at 1:45 a.m., police responded to the 600 block of Prospect Street due to a house alarm activation. They noticed an open garage window with a screen lying in the bushes. They also saw an open kitchen window that had activated the house alarm. The alarm had woken up the resident, police said. The homeowner looked at video, which showed two strangers on the property. One was described as "wearing a black/blue North Face style jacket with a black ski-mask, dark colored pants, and black/white sneakers. The second subject was wearing a grey/black jacket with a grey hooded sweatshirt, a red face mask, light pants and black gloves." The strangers didn't get in, and they left.
Package Disappears
A resident of Durand Road told police on Jan. 5 that after a package that was delivered to his front steps, an unknown man pulled up across the street in a dark-colored black vehicle and took the package. Police have requested a video.
Car Stolen, Found In Next State
On Jan. 2, police said, someone stole a locked 2018 Hyundai overnight from a driveway on the 200 block of Tuscan Road. The car was later recovered in Port Washington, N.Y.
Police also said that an unlocked vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Fernwood Road overnight on Jan. 3. No more details were available.
