Car Hits Pedestrian In Maplewood Near Crosswalk, Police Say (patch.com) — Maplewood police say a woman suffered minor injuries after a driver’s car hit her right leg as she tried to use a crosswalk at Burnet and Baker streets on April 23. She was taken to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston for treatment, and officers noted that the driver stayed at the scene after the collision.    

2. South Orange-Maplewood Schools Earn ‘Best Communities for Music Education' for 10th Consecutive Year (villagegreennj.com) — Maplewood and South Orange families can celebrate a big milestone: the South Orange-Maplewood School District has earned the national “Best Communities for Music Education” honor for the 10th straight year. Local teachers from Maplewood Middle, Columbia High, and several elementary schools say the award reflects strong community support for music, equitable access to programs, and a commitment to creative expression.    

3. ADHD Has Become My Superpower, not a Deficit (tapinto.net) — A Columbia High School junior in Maplewood has turned her experience with ADHD into a free, student-friendly guide aimed at helping local kids see their diagnosis as a strength. Her book, “The Tea About ADHD,” shares practical school and life strategies, emphasizes self-advocacy with IEPs, and will launch locally on June 2 with plans to reach more New Jersey schools and libraries.    

4. Freshman arm Kelly carries No. 4 Columbia past Nutley (nj.com subscription) — Columbia High School’s softball team kept its hot streak alive in Maplewood, as freshman pitcher Alison Kelly fanned 11 batters in a 6-2 win over Nutley. The Cougars’ balanced offense exploded in the sixth inning, with multiple hitters contributing to Columbia’s seventh straight victory and strong position in their SEC division.    

5. ‘Fixture' of Bethel turns 100 years old May 4 (sunjournal.com) — A centenarian with roots in Maplewood is marking her 100th birthday after a lifetime spent teaching and raising a family in Bethel. Born in Maplewood in 1926, Amy Davis went on to become a beloved local educator and community member, known for her resilience through personal loss and her long commitment to family, church, and small-town life.
