ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A water main break is impacting residents near the border of Maplewood and Irvington on Wednesday, according to New Jersey American Water.
The water company released information for affected customers around 10:30 a.m. (see the full advisory and map of coverage here):
“This is an urgent notification from American Water. Our crews are making emergency repairs due to a main break beginning on June 24 in Irvington [and] Maplewood. You reside in the affected area and may experience discolored or cloudy water, low water pressure or no water. Repairs are expected to take approximately seven hours to complete.”
The advisory continued:
“When work is completed, you may experience temporary changes in your water. For discoloration, run cold water at the lowest level of your house. For cloudy water, run water at the highest level of your house. The condition should clear after three to five minutes of running water. If you are a landlord and water service is in your name, please inform your tenants so they are aware of this impact to their water service. In keeping with American Water’s focus on safety for both customers and employees, please do not approach our crews while they work.”
“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issue,” New Jersey American Water added.
