Panel Talk In Maplewood Will Discuss Voter Rights, Black Community

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A panel discussion in Maplewood will discuss voter rights and the Black community on Monday, Aug. 3.

The event is open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. at the Maplewood Memorial Library (Vic DeLuca Room), 51 Baker Street.

The panel discussion – which has been dubbed "The Attack On Voting Rights And The War On Black People" – is sponsored by the People's Organization For Progress (POP), an Essex County-based group that advocates for civil and human rights. It has been endorsed by the Martin Luther King People's Convention for Justice and Resistance planning committee.

"We are having this forum to convey the urgency of the moment as it pertains to voting rights in particular but also to the state of Black people in the U.S. in general – both are under severe attack," POP chair Lawrence Hamm said.

The forum in Maplewood is the fourth of a series on this topic. The first was held in Montclair, the second in Plainfield, and the third in Newark. Others that are scheduled include Hackensack and East Orange.
