Maplewood Village Streets Will Hit A High Note Saturday

Live music, outdoor dining and late shopping will turn part of Maplewood Avenue into a pedestrian plaza Saturday.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood Avenue will trade moving traffic for music, shopping and outdoor dining when Late Summer Streets returns Saturday.

The pedestrian event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on Maplewood Avenue between Highland Place and Inwood Place, according to Maplewood Arts & Culture. Live music is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The closure will give residents room to walk through the village, browse sidewalk displays and eat outside without ordinary vehicle traffic passing through the event area. Local merchants are expected to stay open later, with some offering special promotions and outdoor shopping.

Organizers describe the series as a way to transform Saturday evenings into a "lively pedestrian plaza" filled with community activity.

The event is weather permitting, so residents should check the Maplewood Village Alliance's updates before heading downtown.

Additional Late Summer Streets evenings are scheduled for September 12 and 26 and October 3.
