MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Local artists have until Oct. 15 to get their work in the running for a new juried arts market coming to Maplewood this holiday season, giving area creators a chance to have their work featured during the December event.
Applications opened Monday for The 1978 Collection, a juried market planned at the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center.
The event is being co-curated by Leslie Goldman of Wild Cherry Art and Maria Savidis-Markatos in partnership with the Township of Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture. Jeremy Moss, curator of the Heidi Gallery in Livingston and Iris Gallery at SOPAC, will serve as juror.
The 1978 Maplewood Arts Center will be transformed for two days into a local arts market boutique featuring work selected from local artists. Organizers said the event is inspired by the quality and design of a museum store, with an emphasis on accessible, creative pieces for collectors and gift-givers.
Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture said the market will feature "thoughtfully selected work by local artists."
Artists from Maplewood and surrounding New Jersey communities are invited to apply. Accepted media include painting, prints, photography, collage, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and fiber arts.
Applications can include up to 10 images of an artist's work, along with information including dimensions, medium and an artist bio, statement or CV.
Applications will be reviewed before acceptance notifications are sent Nov. 4. Selected artists must confirm their participation by Nov. 11 and commit to staffing their displays during the preview sale and The 1978 Collection's open hours, including Dec. 5 and Dec. 6.
Artists interested in taking part can submit an application before the Oct. 15 deadline for consideration.
