MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Need a power washer or projector but don't want to buy one? Maplewood Library has a new way for residents to borrow everyday equipment.
The library launched its Library of Things, offering items including a power washer, projector, Yoto and Tonie audio players, yard games and more.
Funded by the Friends of the Maplewood Library, the collection is designed to help residents save money and reduce waste.
"The introduction of the Library of Things is a symbol of the evolving role a 21st-century library plays in the community — offering shared resources in a shared civic space," library director Sarah Lester said in a press release provided to Patch.
"This initiative shows our patrons that their feedback truly matters," she added.
Adult Maplewood Library cardholders with less than $10 in fines can reserve items up to three months in advance.
Items may be borrowed for up to 14 days, with one item permitted per household at a time.
Borrowers must pick up and return equipment at its designated library branch. Late returns incur a $5 daily fine.
Residents can browse the collection and make reservations online.
