Four local schools also earned Gold Awards for the second straight year: Clinton Elementary School, Tuscan Elementary School, Seth Boyden Elementary School and Delia Bolden Elementary School.

The honors recognize efforts to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety through education, community engagement and initiatives supporting safer streets.

The New Jersey Safe Routes to School program recognizes municipalities and schools at four levels: First Step, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

All five Maplewood honorees are featured on the program's official list of 2026 award recipients.
