Armed Robbers Hit Maplewood WaWa: Police

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Maplewood Police are looking for two men responsible for a brazen daylight robbery at the WaWa gas station on Springfield Avenue.

According to Maplewood Police Captain Dawn Williams, at approximately 1:44 p.m. officers were dispatched to the WaWa located at 1511 Springfield Avenue for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, a gas station attendant reported that while he was in the booth putting money in the register, two individuals entered the doorway to the booth, police said. One of the men entered the booth, displayed a handgun and ordered the attendant to open the register drawer, police said.

The attendant complied and the second man then entered and held the attendant in the comer of the booth. Once the money was removed from the register, the actors fled toward Chancellor Avenue, police said.

The attendant described the men both as black males approximately 5' 1O" with thin builds wearing black hooded sweatshirts with the hoods pulled and their faces covered, police said. Both men were reported to possibly be in their early to mid-twenties, police said.

No injuries were reported, and the incident is currently under investigation, police said.
