Bicyclist Killed In Collision With Car In Maplewood: Police

A bicyclist died after a collision with a car in Maplewood. The driver remained at the scene, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- Authorities are investigating a fatal collision between a car and a bicyclist in Maplewood that took place on Saturday. The deceased cyclist was identified as Jeffrey Scott Jr., 29, of Vauxhall.

The collision took place around 2 a.m. in the area of 1600 Springfield Avenue as the car was traveling east, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office stated and Maplewood Police Chief James DuVaul.

Scott Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:48 a.m. The driver of the car remained on the scene, authorities said.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, and the Maplewood Police Department.
