Police received a report of a "person lying in the street" at the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and Hickory Drive in Maplewood.

Maplewood, NJ – Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body found in Maplewood on Memorial Day morning.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Maplewood police officers responded to a report of a “person lying in the street” at the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and Hickory Drive around 4 a.m.

On arrival, officers found an unresponsive man on Wyoming Avenue, police stated.

The male – who has not been identified – was pronounced dead at the scene around 4:19 a.m., authorities said.

The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Maplewood Police Department.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by an autopsy at the Regional Medical Examiner's Office, prosecutors stated.
