Zakiya’s Way Floral Design will celebrate Grand Opening on Saturday, September 22nd

Zakiya’s Way Floral Design will celebrate its grand opening 1921 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood on Saturday, September 22nd with refreshments, sample floral arrangements, balloons and other activities. Maplewood Mayor Vic De Luca will officiate at an 11:00 am ribbon cutting ceremony and the grand opening festivities will continue through 5:00 pm.

Business owner, Zakiya Munnerlyn is moving her floral business of six years from Bloomfield, New Jersey to Maplewood on the recommendation of her friend and Springfield Avenue business owner Joe O’Bannon of Edo’s Cakes (1883 Springfield Avenue). Visitors to MayFest 2012 may have received one of her flowers she handed out with her business card. She claims that she received a lot of business from that giveaway.  Specializing in weddings, funerals, and proms, the designs Ms. Munnerlyn creates are English, Classic, French, Country and American floral arrangements for all events.

They create moods for everyday life while being a beautiful decorative art for display. Munnerlyn says her job as a florist is to make people's visions bigger and set milestones in their lives.

“I have always known how to create masterpieces, but now I have touched upon my gift and my vision to expand myself with more business by attending the fabulous New York School of Flower Design,” noted Munnerlyn. “My instructor was the famous major force in the floral design industry Michael Gaffney.” Gaffney is known designing for celebrity weddings, The Today Show, The Morning Show, High Society Events, Macy's Flower Show, Nieman Marcus and many more.

Ms. Munnerlyn is also planning to move her family residence to Maplewood. She feels Maplewood is a safe community for her business and her family. She has found that the Springfield Avenue business owners she has met have been extremely supportive and generous in promoting her business to their clients. Zakiya’s Way Floral Designs is a co-sponsor of HarvestFest and will be displaying her work at the event scheduled for Saturday, October 13^th, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Hilton Branch Library grounds.
