Buddhist Center to Hold 10 Year Anniversary Event in Maplewood

Dharmachakra Buddhist Center in the Millburn Village Mall, 2933 Vauxhall Road in Vauxhall, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, June 6, with a gala event from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Woodland in Maplewood (formerly the Woman’s Club of Maplewood).

The June 6 celebration will also include an event called an Empowerment of Buddha Maitreya, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to a release, the Dharmachakra Buddhist Center (DBC) offers access to meditation classes in the Vauxhall center and other locations in New Jersey. The center, previously located in Maplewood, was founded in 2005 by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, an internationally renowned Buddhist master, at the request of a local community of meditators who had been practicing since 2002.

The resident teacher, Peter Kurczynski, is a scientist who left his career at Bell Labs in 2005 to teach Buddhism.

“This blessing ceremony helps us connect with our own potential to become more loving, kind and compassionate toward everyone,” stated Kurczynski.
