Car Hits NJ Transit Bus In Maplewood, 9 Injured: Police

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Nine people were recently hospitalized with injuries after a car struck a NJ Transit bus in Maplewood, authorities say.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, the crash took place on Nov. 19. Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“Maplewood police officers responded to Springfield Avenue near Boyden Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a NJ Transit bus. After an on-scene investigation, it was determined that the NJ Transit bus was stopped properly at the Springfield Avenue bus stop when another vehicle struck the bus from behind. There was a total of nine reported non-life-threatening injuries. All parties were transported to area hospitals. University Hospital, South Orange Rescue, and South Essex FD/ EMS responded to the scene and transported the injured parties to area hospitals.”

The driver of the car – an 81-year-old Maplewood resident – was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
