Celebrating David Coble's Life and Spirit at the Library

The new David Coble Collection of Fierce Creatures opens this Saturday, June 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the main branch of Maplewood Memorial Library.

It has been almost six years since the passing of David Leland Coble, age 6.

David Coble (5/16/99 - 6/29/05) was an artist and paleontologist. He loved his family, and he loved Spider-man, Venom, superheroes, reptiles, dinosaurs, dragons, cats big and little, and all things fierce.

David  moved to Maplewood in 2000 and spent 5 happy years here. He attended the South Mountain YMCA pre-school and kindergarten, where he made great friends. David was a defender of the weak who wanted to help others who didn't have as much as he did. He was curious about everything, and he spent many happy hours in the library or reading books borrowed from the library.

David's spirit and memory remains very much alive in the community of South Orange and Maplewood. And community members will celebrate David this Saturday, June 18, at 3:30 p.m. for the opening of the new David Coble Collection of Fierce Creatures and the main branch of Maplewood Memorial Library.

With a generous donation in memory of David, the Maplewood Library Children's Department has purchased a collection of books on sharks, dinosaurs, snakes, dragons, big cats and other fierce creatures.  The library is having a reception, with refreshments and crafts for kids at the main library branch.

Said children's librarian Jane Folger, "It will be a lot of fun, and a great opportunity to support the library and our local book-loving community. Please spread the word and we hope to see you on Saturday!"
