Below is the text of a letter signed by Osborne and Seth Boyden Principal Mark Quiles that was sent out to parents on Tuesday.
To the Seth Boyden Demonstration School Community,
This Monday, June 29, 2009 at 7:30 pm, Mr. Osborne will recommend to the Board of Education that Ms. Tina Lehn be appointed as Principal of South Mountain School, and that Mrs. Raquel Horn be appointed as Assistant Principal of Seth Boyden Demonstration School. Should the Board of Education approve the recommendations, we hope that you will join us congratulating Ms. Lehn on her new leadership opportunity and welcoming Mrs. Horn to the Seth Boyden community.
Tina Lehn has served well the Seth Boyden Demonstration School community for the last ten years, with the past three years in a leadership role as assistant to the principal. We feel sad to see her leave Seth Boyden, yet we share her joy in growing as a leader and taking on the responsibility as principal.
We are pleased to announce that after a rigorous search for an assistant principal that fielded 197 applicants, we selected for recommendation Raquel Horn. Mrs. Horn is a magna cum laude graduate of Kean College of New Jersey where she received a B.A. in Communications, and an honors graduate of the University of Phoenix where she received a M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision. She is currently an Assistant Principal at the Delran Intermediate School located in Delran, New Jersey where she assists with the supervision of approximately 65 staff members and 650 students. She has served as an elementary classroom teacher, a literacy coach, a mentor teacher, a professional development provider, school testing coordinator, and a design coach – a specialist in NJ ASK data analysis. Mrs. Horn also worked as an assistant instructor for the Kean University Teacher Quality Enhancement Consortium Summer Technology Program. She was recognized by the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program and the Wal-Mart Teacher Recognition Program, both in 2004.
Mrs. Horn believes that all children can learn if they are supported by creative teachers with high expectations, caring parents, and a challenging curriculum. She is a firm believer in using “differentiation” to meet the needs of all students at all academic levels. Adept at data analysis, she believes that data must support instruction in order for academic progress to occur, and that the best differentiation occurs when applying multiple intelligence theory into daily instructional practice.
Together with Mr. Quiles, Mrs. Horn will enable Seth Boyden Demonstration School to continue to grow as a unique and vibrant school community, welcoming parent participation, supporting the professional growth of all staff, and creating a warm and supportive learning environment for all students.
