Early Closure For Maplewood, South Orange Schools Due To Weather

With Essex County now under a winter weather advisory, and freezing rain and ice expected, the school schedule for Friday has changed.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The South Orange-Maplewood School District said in a message Friday morning that due to the weather forecast for later Friday, the schools would close early.

The district added:

"All after school clubs and CHS sporting activities for today will be canceled. Students and families enrolled in the YMCA aftercare will receive additional guidance under separate cover, directly from the YMCA. You can view your school’s early dismissal schedule below or visit the “school hours webpage” – https://www.somsd.k12.nj.us/about/hours/

Essex County is under a winter weather advisory from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with a prediction from the National Weather Service of "several hours of freezing rain, sleet, and snow."
