Essex County May Get Another Wawa: Report
Wawa may be considering opening its second Essex County convenience store, a report says.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Is Wawa considering opening its second Essex County convenience store? According to a recent report, the company may be laying the ground floor for a possible new location in Newark.
The store “appears to be proposed” for 1300-1346 or 1374-1398 McCarter Highway/Route 21 at the edge of the Lower Broadway neighborhood in Newark’s Central Ward, JerseyDigs.com reported Thursday.
The Newark Central Planning Board or the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment has not yet heard plans about the reported new Wawa, JerseyDigs stated.

Wawa opened a store in Maplewood last December – its first in Essex County – a day that Mayor Victor DeLuca called a “great, great day” for the township.

According to the company’s website:
“Wawa began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey; and transitioned to a mill and bleachery in the mid-1860’s. In 1902, Wawa started a dairy farm and processing plan in Wawa, PA; and in 1964 the first Wawa food market was opened in Folsom, PA.”
The company employs more than 22,000 associates, serves more than 400 million customers and sells more than 190 million cups of coffee every year, according to its website.
