Essex County Shooting Kills Teen, Injures 3

A nighttime shooting left one Essex County teen dead and three others wounded, police say.

Authorities are investigating a Thursday night shooting in Orange that killed a 17-year-old teen and injured three other males.

The shooting took place on the 100 block of Taylor Street around 9:30 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Orange Police Department.

Responding to a report of a shooting in progress, Orange police officers arrived on the scene to find a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency responders transported the teen – later identified as Davon Jones, 17, of Orange – to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.

Emergency responders also found three other males suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds on the scene. They were transported to nearby hospitals and treated for their wounds, authorities stated.
