Grasses in the garden offer ease of culture, long seasonal interest, animal and pest resistance, and they add major impact to the fall and winter landscape. There are a wealth of plants to choose from and on Monday, September 10th, the Maplewood Garden Club will open its 2012-2013 lecture series with Bill Kolvek, who will share his passion for Ornamental Grasses, Grass Relatives and Grass-Like plants. A life-long gardener in Hardiness Zone 6, Kolvek is an expert, teacher and lecturer on perennials, and owner of Bill Kolvek Perennials, a wholesale and retail plant nursery. He has a special interest in Ornamental Grasses and has taught classes on the subject at NY Botanical Garden and the Institute of Ecological Studies; as well as teaching and lecturing on perennials at numerous other educational and garden-centric venues.
Bill will share his knowledge with the Maplewood Garden Club and present popular plants along with some promising beauties that are new to the scene. Come find out more about how to choose, plant and care for Ornamental Grasses, Monday, September 10, 7:30 PM at the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker St., Maplewood, NJ. The meeting is open to the public, admission is free and refreshments (often home made!) are served.
