Fire and Ice: Crews Battle Essex County Blaze In Freezing Temps [VIDEOS]
Watch Essex County firefighters tame a three-alarm blaze in Irvington while coping with the icy New Jersey winter.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Irvington and Essex County firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at a Nye Avenue commercial building on one of the coldest nights so far this winter this weekend, authorities say.
The conflagration damaged the building’s roof and second floor, and appears to have started around midnight in a utility room of the second floor, Irvington Fire Chief Antonio Gary told NJ.com.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries, Gary said.

However, the frigid nighttime conditions gave firefighters trouble, including a frozen fire hydrant, Gary said.
Fire crews from Orange, East Orange, Millburn, South Orange, West Orange, Maplewood and Newark provided mutual aid during the blaze.
