From Maplewood to Kentucky — Rutgers Painting Hits the Road

Kevin Sheridan sent his crew south to help a former Maplewoodian restore his clapboard.

When Dr. Andrew DeFilippis moved to Louisville, Kentucky, he knew that he would miss certain elements of Maplewood, but he probably didn't think it would be Rutgers Painting that he missed the most.

DeFillipis, a cardiologist who grew up in Maplewood as one of four brothers, has started a thread on MaplewoodOnline detailing the story of how he and his wife could not find a contractor to restore the wood clapboard of his newly purchased home in Kentucky and turned to Rutgers Painting for help.

"The turn of the century clap board was in terrible shape because of one hundred years worth of bad paint jobs and unforgiving hot, cold and rainy weather. I spoke to multiple people about restoring the siding on this colonial — painters, contractors, lumber yards, clap board manufactures and paint manufactures. They all said the same this— there is no way to restore this clap board –you have to remove and reside the entire house."

"Not only would this be a great expense but we feared we would lose the one-hundred-year-old character of the house."

DeFillipis goes on to recount the story of how Sheridan worked to find a restoration specialist in Kentucky but ultimately took the project on himself. DeFillipis' new neighbors were amazed at the work and their eyes have been opened to new restoration processes. Read the details here.

Says DeFillipis, "I fear that Maplewoodians do not know how lucky they are to have Rutgers Painting in town."

For his part Sheridan is thankful — to DeFillipis and the whole DeFillipis clan. "Mom and dad still living Maplewood," Sheridan told Patch. "We are painting their living room today."
