It’s a ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ Thursday 'About Town'
Camera crews take over downtown today — plan parking & commuting accordingly.
WE already know how quaint, cool and charming is – now all of TV Land will too: today town will be the location for an Optimum WiFi commercial. Looks like Ricalton Square and will be the hot spots of choice for the filming, as well as a platform at the .
What does this mean for commuters and our already packed parking situation? Extra planning and extra time will be in order, I’ll bet. This, according to our Township:
Parking and business areas may be affected by a filming project on Thursday, July 14, beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Maplewood Avenue and on the platform at the Maplewood Train Station — commuters should plan accordingly on their commuting times by factoring in additional time to navigate Maplewood Village and to find alternate parking in the areas of Maplewood Avenue near Highland Place, the Ricalton Square Lot and Dunnell Road between Oakland Road and Baker Street. Shoppers should also plan accordingly.

Still, strategic parking issues aside, Town Clerk expects the shoot to go smoothly:
“The Township expects little or no disruption at all,” says Fritzen. Still she’s ready to let us know ASAP if there are any glitches. “It is always our policy considering the number of instant ways to reach the public and our residents that notifying of any changes is a positive avenue to take," she says.

will also be on hand to keep things on course: “Additionally key Township departments are always involved in filming requests such as this and it has been deemed necessary for the securing of two (2) police officers to be on scene during the entire filming process at the cost to the filming company,” reports Fritzen.
So don’t let a little spotlight keep you away from Town! Even if you’re not ready for your small screen close up, our would still love to see you: Filming might be great for our Town’s reputation, but if it keeps shoppers from shopping it’s not great for our local shops!
That’s a wrap — Happy Thursday, Maplewood!
