It’s an About Town Hotter Than a Cookie Sheet (or a car seat...!)

The Able Baker is Coming! The Able Baker is Coming!

Craving some scoop on when will be back to baking and opening up her eagerly awaited ? You’re not alone:

“I’m really looking forward to having an actual answer for the question of when I’m opening,” says Pauly, who jokes it’s gotten to the point where she’s turning down social invites for fear of fielding the query from any more Maplewoodians.

Well, wait no more, my fellow Able Bakeraholics, About Town’s got a hearty helping of info for you, and we’re not talking crumbs! Turns out a pipe leak Memorial Day weekend brought construction to a soggy halt for a bit, but now things are thankfully back on track. When Patch stopped by 187 Maplewood Avenue this morning, a perky Ms. Pauly was meeting with coffee vendors and going over plans with her husband, .

Here’s the update:

“They’ll be ripping up sub–flooring in the beginning of the week and my contractor starts Wednesday,” says Pauly. “He’s telling me he’ll be done in three weeks, but you know that old contractor adage, double the estimated time,” she adds with a laugh.

While she’s obviously enjoyed her baking hiatus and time spend planning and picking decorative touches for the shop, she’s chomping at the bit to get back to turning out her creative confections. “I’d hoping to be open in February in time to serve hot chocolate,” she muses. “Now I’m hoping I’ll be open long before it’s time to serve it again!”

(Yup, lemonade and some of those crazy good sugar cookies sure sound great about now...)

As for a sneak peak as to what you can expect to see in a few weeks? Patch promises pictures ASAP, but until then, this description should whet your appetite: ”We’ll have an open kitchen with a 1940’s aesthetic and design," shares Pauly. As for the colors? “We’re going with butter yellow and chocolate brown.” Sounds perfectly apropos, no?

And if the thought of waiting a few more weeks for your Able Baker fix is too tough to take, take heart: Julie and all her baked treat goodness will be at this coming weekend, July 9th and 10th!

Have a thouroughly wonderful Thursday, y'all!
