Large Maplewood Water Main Break: Water 'Safe To Drink'
A large water main break took place in Maplewood. According to NJAW, the water is safe to drink and no boiling is necessary.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- A large water main break took place in the vicinity of Oakland Road and the northeast portion of Maplewood from Prospect to Boyden on Sunday, authorities stated.
The Maplewood Community Pool closed Sunday due to the water main break. Maplewood authorities said that the estimated time for repair is 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca gave the following details about the break on Sunday afternoon:

- Break on Oakland Road has been repaired. It was a large break.
- Water pressure will slowly build up throughout the day and night. Generally this occurs at the lowest level along the eastern border of town and goes westward up to Prospect.
- According to NJAW, the water is safe to drink and no boiling is necessary. You should just let it run for a few minutes so that any rust is removed. Remember to run water before doing any laundry.
- If you live on Oakland and have damage to your property, NJAW will make repairs. I suggest you take photos of any damage. NJAW will contact you about the repairs.
- NJAW will also make repairs to the road. The police are determining if they will open the road to vehicles. Suggest you find an alternate route on Monday.
- The Maplewood Pool is closed for the remainder of the day. The water pressure is not sufficient to allow it to be open.
- The fire hydrant leak on Maplewood Avenue is minor and water does not need to be shut off.
