Local Film 'Bazookas' Gets Two-Week Run at Maplewood Theater

The movie will run Sundays through Thursdays, November 8 through November 19.

Since premiering at the Maplewood Theater in May (and Patch was at the premiere just as we are at all local premieres!), Michael G. Leonard's movie Bazookas has been available to moviegoers only via DVD.

Until now. Starting Sunday, November 8, locals will be able to see this Maplewood-born-and-bred film on the big screen again.

Bazookas will be showing at the Maplewood Theater for two weeks (Sunday nights through Thursday nights) starting Sunday, November 8, through Thursday, November 19. Leonard, who lives on Highland Avenue, told us this week, "I just found out a couple days ago and I'm excited to have a 'theatrical' run in town."

Leonard reported, "After the premiere we immediately started selling DVDs on our website, as well as on Amazon and a few other retailers. We are also in talks with companies to possibly bring Bazookas to pay-per-view, cable TV, and several digital download sites."

While distribution negotiations continue, Bazookas will enjoy some local movie theater treatment. What's it about? The film follows the story of two brothers, Angus and Judah, who vie for control of the family gym, Bazookas, after the death of their father, Gus.

Again from Leonard: "Bazookas is a comedy in the tradition of the National Lampoon movies and comedy classics like Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I'm hoping the movie will draw an audience and that maybe we can lure some of the Seton Hall students in. It's a fun movie and I'm excited to have the chance to show it at the Maplewood Theater again."
