Maplewood Dems Endorse 2 Candidates For 1 Township Committee Seat
Two Democrats will vie in a June primary for one open spot on the Maplewood Township Committee. No Republicans are running.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — In an unusual move, Maplewood's Democratic Committee has endorsed two candidates for the same open seat in the 2022 Maplewood Township Committee election, leaving the final choice of nomineee to the primary voters this coming June.
Only one of the five Township Committee seats is up for grabs this year. Outgoing committee member and former Mayor Frank McGehee has said he won't run again.
Both Kurt Kiley and Deborah Engel have been endorsed for the seat. They will face off in the June 7 primary. The winning Democrat will run in November.

Town Clerk Liz Fritzen said no one else filed by the Monday deadline to run in the primaries.

The seat will be held for three years.
The Village Green reported this week that no Republicans have run for Maplewood Township Committee since 2017.
