Maplewood To Host School Reopening Q&A; What About The Snow?

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — As some Maplewood and South Orange families prepared to rally Saturday to make sure the school district reopens on time Jan. 19, Superintendent of Schools Ronald Taylor released a video update on the plans and a schedule of events this week related to the upcoming reopening.

The district is expected to reopen for a hybrid of on-site and remote instruction for one cohort of students on Jan. 19, but some parents who rallied on Saturday said learning should be five days per week.

Among the upcoming events in the district will be a school board meeting and a live Q&A. See the schedule here.

As of Monday morning, the parents' petition had garnered more than 1,400 signatures.

What about snow?

Some North Jersey districts announced their plans for inclement weather over the weekend, and whether schools will conduct remote learning during a severe storm.

While some will try to go remote if the weather is bad, others, like nearby Millburn, will start by giving the traditional days off.

Forecasters on Sunday announced a winter storm watch for 12 of the state's 21 counties.

For Maplewood, Accweather predicts a total accumulation of 6 to 10 inches from Wednesday through overnight (scroll down on the page for the total).
