Maplewood Library To Host Botanical Art Workshop This Week

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood Library will host a Botanical Art Workshop: "Patterns in Nature and Art," led by local teaching artist Karen Fuchs this week.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Participants will examine natural specimens and images to discover patterns such as branching, spirals, Fibonacci sequences, and symmetry before sketching observations and creating botanical prints inspired by the natural world.

The workshop combines concepts from art, design, science, and math, offering a hands-on opportunity to explore the forms and structures found in nature.

Fuchs, a teaching artist and designer with a background in textile design and interior architecture, has taught at institutions including MoMA, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, the New York Botanical Garden, the Montclair Art Museum, and NJ Audubon. Her own artistic practice includes cyanotypes, printmaking, drawing, textiles, collage, and assemblage.
