Maplewood Makos Fall to Berkeley Heights

But the team's record is still an astounding 6-1. Final meet is Monday.

In extremely hard fought battle, the unbeaten Maplewood Makos swim team fell to Berkeley Heights tonight, recording their first loss of the season, and moving to 6-1.

With all swimmers bounding courageously through the water, Berkeley Heights was able to hold on with enough points to pull ahead. The meet came down to the final relays, where the Berkeley Heights team had just enough gas in the tank to win.

A truly exciting event to watch was the boys 12 and under relay of Barron, Sherbine, Kovacs, and Kovacs (full disclosure: the writer's sons), where the boys swam ferociously in an effort to beat the pool record, set in 2008. They came within .10 seconds, and the old record held. The relay team, however, won their event.
