Maplewood Man Allegedly Tried To Stab Teen During Robbery: Police
A Maplewood man is accused of trying to stab a teen during a robbery attempt on Jacoby Street, police say.

Maplewood, NJ – Police arrested a Maplewood man for allegedly trying to stab a 17-year-old male during a robbery last week.
According to the Maplewood Police Department, the encounter took place near 144 Jacoby Street around 7:16 p.m. on Feb. 5.
The victim told police that he lent Ondre Weekes, 23, of Maplewood, his cell phone to make a call. However, Weekes then allegedly placed the phone in his pocket, the teen said.

At that time, Weekes allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife and tried to stab the teen, who was able to block the attempt, police stated.
Weekes then fled on Boyden Avenue toward Irvington, the teen told police.

After receiving a description of the suspect, Maplewood officers located Weekes on Mill Road in Irvington and attempted to stop him. Weekes allegedly attempted to flee and resisted arrest, but was taken into custody with the help of additional officers, police said.
The victim was reportedly uninjured during the encounter, but a Maplewood police officer received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries suffered as a result of the arrest, authorities stated.
Police transported Weekes to the Essex County Jail and later charged him with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer (three counts), Robbery, Manufacturing, Distributing or Dispensing Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), Distribution of CDS on or within 1,000 feet of school property, Possession of CDS, Possession Prescription Legend Drugs, Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon with Unlawful Purpose.
