Maplewood Police To Host Junior Academy For Middle School Students

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood Police Department is accepting applications for its Junior Academy, a weeklong program designed to introduce local youth to public safety while building leadership and teamwork skills.

The academy will run August 3–10, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is open to boys and girls entering grades 6–8who live in or attend school in Maplewood.

Participants will take part in hands-on activities, including car stop demonstrations, fire safety training, marching and team drills, and leadership challenges. The program also includes visits to the U.S. National Guard Armory, the Essex County Police Academy, FunPlex, and other locations.

Organizers say the academy offers young people a behind-the-scenes look at public safety while encouraging confidence, teamwork, and community engagement.
