Maplewood Resident Catches Burglar Stealing TV From Daughter’s Room: Police

The intruder left the home by going down a fire escape, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood police recently arrested a burglary suspect after a local resident caught him trying to steal a television from his daughter’s bedroom, authorities say.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, officers responded to a Springfield Avenue home on March 27 after getting a report about a burglary.

The resident told officers that he saw an unknown man in his daughter’s bedroom attempting to remove a television from the wall. The intruder left the home by going down a fire escape onto Springfield Avenue.

The resident provided police with a description of the burglar. Officers searched the area, eventually apprehending a suspect: Angel Nives, 30, of Maplewood.

Nives was charged with burglary and theft. He was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
