Maplewood Resident Wins State Teaching Award

Dr. Christopher Shamburg, a Maplewood resident and father of two students, was presented with a teaching award from the State of New Jersey on April 20 at the Chauncey Hotel and Conference Center in Princeton.

Shamburg works a professor of Educational Technology at New Jersey City University and is the author of several books.

Shamburg received the Award for Distinguished Faculty at the State's "Excellence in Teacher Preparation" Awards.

In a letter to Shamburg, Gov. Chris Christie wrote, "There is nothing more important to the future of our State than the education of our children."

Christie goes on to call the Higher Education Showcase of Exemplary Practices awards "the first in a series of events and initiatives that will emphasize the importance of higher eduation in New Jersey."

The governor continues: "I want to personally acknowledge your excellent contributions to education and for realizing that teaching is a passion, an art form, a way of life and a career — not just a job."

Teachers were nominated by their peers.

Locally, Shamburg is also a Clinton School Library Parent Volunteer and an Assistant Instructor at .
