Maplewood-South Orange Students Earn 2017 National Merit Scholarships

These South Orange and Maplewood students captured prestigious National Merit scholarships for 2017.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Several South Orange-Maplewood students were named among the 2017 National Merit scholarship winners. Nationwide, 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 high-achieving finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

  • Jacob L. Kalodner of Columbia High School in Maplewood earned a National Merit $2,500 scholarship (planned career: anthropology)
  • Anshul N. Vyakarnam of Columbia High School in Maplewood earned a National Merit Scholarship from The Lubrizol Foundation (planned career: engineering)
