New Sergeant In Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - There is a new sergeant on patrol in Maplewood as Pete Klebaur has been promoted to the post as of last week.

In September of 2011, Klebaur was hired by Maplewood before heading to the Police Academy. But Klebaur has ties to the community that run deeper than that.

"My father grew up in Maplewood," Klebaur said. "I was raised in a nearby Union County town, but always spent a lot of time in Maplewood."

Klebaur comes from a long line of civil servants that include teachers, firemen and policeman.

"My grandfather was a Police Officer and very inspirational to me so I am following in his footsteps," Klebaur told Patch, noting that he is a veteran of the Marine Corps and a college graduate. "I have served as a patrol officer and in the Detective Bureau."

At the ceremony, Kelbeaur had no shortage of supporters present.

"I am one of four children. My mother and father were present along with my younger brother and sister. My eldest sister was unable to attend do to her living in Virgina Beach and having young children," Klebaur said. "I had a number of aunts and uncles as well as friends present.

Klebaur said he was blessed enough to have all the member of my previous unit, the Detective Bureau, present to share this moment with along with other member of the department. As for the future, Klebaur said he was looking forward to continuing the work.

"I am extremely honored to be serving the citizens of Maplewood, and look forward to my continued service in my new role as Sergeant," he said.
