New Tenant for Yale Street Commons

The Springfield Ave. development will host a tuxedo store.

Yale Street Commons, the commercial and residential space on the corner of Yale Street and Springfield Ave., will soon have its first commercial tenant. Signs have gone up in the first floor storefront window announcing that the space will soon host a formal dress store already familiar to Maplewood shoppers.

Top Hat & Tails Wedding Center, which previously was in business for five years at 1809 Springfield Ave., is scheduled to open at Yale Street Commons in mid-October. Beth McDonald, executive director of the Springfield Avenue Partnership, said the store’s owner, Maplewood resident Horace Kinard, felt he had outgrown the old space, and that the Yale Street Commons store will be a better fit.

“He’s very excited,” McDonald said. “And we’re thrilled, of course.”

Yale Street Commons is one of three recently built housing projects on Springfield Ave. The building’s residential space was part of a Patch article in June.
