Papa’s Gotta Brand New Place – On Springfield Avenue!

The little stand that could is fired up again – this time with wings, burgers and dogs.

Chances are you’ve driven passed it a million times on your way to the Parkway or the pool: it’s that cheerful little corner location that’s always seemed like a doggone natural spot for a dog stand – or any takeout cuisine.

While the bitty building has seen a few false launches in years gone by, the good news is the grills are going again, and this time it looks like they’ll be fired up for a good.

“My father found the spot,” says Tina Patel, manager of Papa’s Fried Chicken and Wings, newly nestled now into the cozy confines of 1546 Springfield Avenue. “It’s got traffic coming from five directions and it’s a nice little place.”

Little is literal in this bite-sized locale, which can make turning around their menu — which includes all-day breakfast plates, hot sandwiches, sliders, wings, foot long dogs and kabobs, too — an impressive undertaking.

“It’s a good thing we all get along,” jokes Tina who works alongside her father Jimmy and mom Kalapana in this family-run business. “I don’t think more than three of us would fit back here!”

Fortunately, Tina runs a tight and tidy ship — testament to her former profession as a teacher. She’s now scoring high marks with her new eatery endeavor.

“We’ve had such a great response so far,” she says of the reaction Papa’s is getting since opening September 7. “The big hits, so far, are the wings and Philly Steak. We’re looking forward to bringing in seasonal offerings, too, like winter soups and more sandwiches and BBQ for the summer.”

Judging from the reaction the foot long dogs got from the pint-sized patrons I brought along when I stopped in (both 7 year olds polished off the whole thing) Papa’s will be giving the pool snack bar a healthy dose of hearty competition next year. The fact that this is Papa’s second location – it joins another successful site in Englewood – bodes well for business, too.

Oh, and they deliver!!!

Papa’s Fried Chicken & Wings open Mon-Fri 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Sat until 5 p.m.  973-275-0003
