Person | Place Exhibition

This exhibition shows two collections of works by local artist Ananda Lima. Person shows three projects inspired by the ubiquitous fashion and advertising imagery we see in billboards and magazines as well as the growing exposure we have to photographs of people, from those we have never met to those we know well, via mass and social media. It explores portraiture, fashion and advertisement photography, our perceptions of the people depicted in magazines and each other, and what is represented and perceived from a photograph of a person. Place shows a selection of photographs, centered around the place where they were taken. They include abstractions of elements of color, texture and repeating patterns within or across locations, which were an important part of my experience and memory of those places as a photographer. Photographs were taken in New York City (mostly Manhattan, Williamsburg and Long Island City), Brazil, France and Israel. Part of the 11th SOMA Artists Tour. Refreshments will be served and the artist will be available for questions.
