MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood police released a statement on Wednesday after responding Tuesday night to "multiple fights" after a high school basketball game, they said.

Police said that the game — hosted at Columbia High School, which draws students from Maplewood and South Orange — was played against Irvington High School.

"At the conclusion," said Det. Sgt. Scott Reeves of the Community Service Bureau, "a large group of over a hundred exited the gym. Multiple fights started within the crowd. [The] Maplewood police officer assigned to the game notified the police department via radio."
