Power Outages Continue As Weather Improves

The sun is shining, but the PSE&G outage map lists 501-2,000 households still without power in Maplewood on Sunday, Oct. 30.

After an evening of candlelit scrabble games and families gathered around fireplaces for entertainment, a new day has dawned with sunny skies.

But many Maplewood families are not yet out of the woods after an historic snowstorm that brought the greatest accumulation of snow to Essex County — and other parts of the tri-state area — since such totals have been recorded.

The NOAA website lists totals for Newark Airport at 5.2 inches (as of 2 a.m. this morning) and for West Orange at 8 inches (as of 9:45 p.m. last night). No measurements are taken in Maplewood.

The PSE&G outage map shows 501-2,000 customers in Maplewood still without power as of 9 a.m. Sunday. One Maplewood customer posted online last night that a PSE&G representative said their power would not be restored for two days.

Conditions on the roads are still difficult, with trees and limbs littering most streets in Maplewood and surrounding towns. Police have taped off many Maplewood streets. Public Works crews in Maplewood were out throughout the night plowing and clearing streets in town — where they could get through.
