Pride Events Kickoff This Weekend In Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - June is bringing Pride month to Maplewood and things are getting started with a march for equality and a picnic.

According to organizers, NJ's only annual Pride grassroots March will gather at Ricalton Square for a flag raising, march through Maplewood Village to Town Hall, rally at Town Hall, SOMA Joint Pride Proclamation and a flag raising at Town Hall.

There will also be a series of speakers including keynote, Ann Northrop. Northrop is a journalist and activist, and the current co-host of TV news program Gay USA.

The program is set to begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon.

Afterwards, the Youth Pride Family Picnic is scheduled at Maplewood Gazebo, Hilton Branch of Maplewood Memorial Library. It is set to begin at noon and end at 3 p.m. and has been organized by the SOMA Action Student Leadership Committee, CHS Spectrum Club, CHS Student Council, Maplewood Youth Advisory Committee and Hetrick-Martin Institute Newark. On the schedule is family fun, youth entertainment & activities, food trucks, free pizza, water & snacks, and a first time flag raising on Springfield Avenue.
