Rev Your Engines -- It's Time for MayFest!
A highlight of Maplewood's spring social calendar, MayFest has something for everyone.
Springfield Avenue’s biggest party of the year returns on Sunday, May 20. It’s the , a chance for the Avenue to strut its stuff and show the community everything it has to offer.
Food, live music, crafts, children’s activities, the ever-popular – there is something to please everyone at this event, which is hosted by and presented by . The Avenue will be closed to traffic between Indiana and Oberlin Streets throughout the festival, which runs from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Local bands – including SOMA’s premiere jazz band, MoodRing – will take the stage throughout the day. Stage One, located near Prospect Street, will feature live performances by local community bands, while Stage Two, located near Princeton Street, will showcase up and coming local teen bands and performing arts demonstrations. For the little ones, there will be a petting zoo and pony rides, a kiddie train, inflatable rides, and other fun activities. More than 100 vendors, artists, crafters and civic associations will be on hand.
Local restaurants and cafes, including Churrasco, HLS Juice Bar & Grill, Da Kitchen Café, Piast Polish Meat and Provision, Verjus and Edo’s Quality Cakes, will offer food and drink for purchase.

A favorite part of the day is the Classic Car Show. Car owners can enter to display their car, and some even come in costume (the owners and their cars!) Entrants can compete for a $50 cash prize and for the titles of Mayor’s Choice, Most Awesome and A Cool Ride. Overlook Medical Center, PSE&G and HK Foundation are this year’s event sponsors. Ride sponsors include DCH Millburn Audi, Harrington Moving & Storage, Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, Ricciardi Brothers Paints, Waste Management and Waste Industries. Woolley Fuel Company is this year’s sponsor of wristbands for purchase to get on rides, with 74th Spring LLC, American Water, EastSide Fitness, Fringe, Hair Chalet, Le Petit Academy, Our Gang Travel and Park Wood Diner as table sponsors. Music sponsor is The Partnership’s Clean and Safe Committee.
