Sneak Peek at Revolution Home
Maplewood's newest store had a preview event on Saturday.

Revolution Home, Baker’s Street’s newest enterprise, previewed its wares and services on Saturday, during Maplewood’s Open Market. The store, co-owned by interior designer Jodi Sherer and artist David Heffernan, offers artwork, furnishings and a variety of items that straddle those categories. Sherer describes the store’s ambiance as “part Paris flea market, part country French farmhouse, certainly shabby chic.”
She and Heffernan offer architectural details, some salvaged locally from homes and churches, as small as a wall sconce, as large as beams reclaimed from a barn.
Heffernan and Sherer offer design services with a twist; they are able to craft furnishings and even flooring. Sherer points to the floor that completes a display at the front of the store. “David remilled, cleaned, and installed that wood,” she notes.
Both owners seek to “recycle, reclaim, and repurpose” old goods. “We think about how we use items,” says Sherer. “Then we repurpose items. We also support other companies that do the same.”
The store’s wares are grouped in “vignettes,” displays that show how items look in context, rather than by type. A wire mesh basket, for example, is displayed on an antique vanity, rather than among other baskets. While the owners have “mantels galore,” they display them around the store, rather than in a row. “We love to breathe new life into old objects,” says Sherer.
The store also features Heffernan’s artwork, including several original paintings. The store will be open on Saturday for what the owners call “a preview.” The owners have discovered that Maplewood is eager for a sneak peek; many potential customers have stopped in to ask questions and study the new store. “Come on back this Saturday,” urges Sherer. “It’s always fun to look.”
