So, You Think I Can Dance?

South Orange Patch Editor Editor Marcia Worth puts on her tap shoes.

As the first annual Jersey Tap Fest got underway at SOPAC, founder, dancer, and all-around organizer Hillary-Marie Michaels taught me to tap dance.  "If you can walk," she said. "You can tap." Fortunately, Barry Kaufman was on hand to record our session for posterity.

Michaels taught me the beginning of the "Shim Sham Shimmy," a traditional dance that ends most tap performances. I have little tap experience, but Michaels is a good teacher. Even in my humble orange garage, we achieved the Paradiddle, another traditional set of moves.

I've got my dancing shoes ready for Sat. night's final performance at SOPAC.  I hope to see you there.
