Society of Musical Arts Concert "Brand New Day"

The Society of
Musical Arts Orchestra present the final concert of the season on Sunday, June
1, 2014.  "Brand New Day"
continues the orchestra's season-long focus of contemporary compositions and
new composers.  The highlight of the
concert will be Robert Aldridge's piece for orchestra "Brand New
Day."  Aldridge, currently Professor
and Director of Music at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers
University, will coach the orchestra in his piece, and will answer questions
from the audience at the concert.  Other
pieces on the program will be an organ concerto by Poulenc with Eugene Lavery
as soloist, and Sibelius Symphony No. 2 in D major, op. 43.

The Society of
Musical Arts (SOMA) was founded by the famous Maplewood violinist and music
teacher/author, Samuel Applebaum.  For
over thirty years, the SOMA orchestra has brought together friends, neighbors,
and musicians, both professional and amateur--all for the love of music!  All are welcome!  Visit www.soma.ar88.net or call 973 763 4939
for more information.  This concert is
made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts
administered through Essex County.
